The state of Mississippi (MS) does not legally define electric bicycles. In Opinion No. 2007-00602, Attorney General Jim Hood clarified that bicycle with a motor attached to it does not satisfy the definition of “motor vehicle.”
The state of Mississippi does not require license or registration for electric bikes.
The state of Mississippi doesn’t have any restrictions on motor power or throttle for electric bikes.
Since electric bikes are not legally defined in the state of Mississippi, there are not age restrictions for their use either.
Helmets are not required for electric bicycles.
In Opinion 2007-00602, Attorney General James Hood stated that it is up to the entity creating bike lanes and paths to decide if electric bikes are allowed. Please review the restrictions for electric bikes with the local ordinance where you intend to ride.
