🇺🇸Missouri State Electric Bike Laws

The state of Missouri (MO) defines electric bikes as any two or three wheeled device that has an automatic transmission and a motor of less than 750W and is capable of propelling the device at a maximum speed of not more than 30mph on level ground.
The state of Missouri does not require any license or registration. Insurance is not required, however the state of Missouri defines an electric bike as a motor vehicle for insurance purposes.

There are no age restrictions for the use of electric bikes in the state of Missouri.
Helmets are required for all electric bike riders.
Electric bicycles may be ridden on roadways where the posted speed limit is less than the traveling speed of the device. Riders must remain as far right as practical, except when making a left hand turn. Electric bicyclists may ride abreast when not impeding other vehicles. No person shall ride a motorized bicycle upon a sidewalk.
Additional notes:
- Every electric bike should be equipped with a brake or brakes which will enable its driver to stop the bicycle within 25 feet from a speed of 10 mph on dry, level, clean pavement.
- Every electric bicycle when in use on a street or highway during the period from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise shall be equipped with a front-facing lamp, a rear-facing red reflector, reflective material and/or lights visible from the front and the rear on any moving part of the bicyclist: and reflective material and/or lights visible on each side of the bicycle or bicyclist visible at night under normal atmospheric conditions on a straight, level, unlighted roadway.
